Pee Dee River Bridge

Size: 540 ft long bridge
Project Responsibility: Structural Engineering Design

MMSA was responsible for developing preliminary and final bridge design and plans for one of the six bridges crossing the Pee Dee River Overflows. The nine span 540 ft long bridge, located at Station 42+68.00, carries two twelve feet travel lanes with ten feet wide shoulders. The reinforced concrete deck is comprise of three 180 ft long continuous for live load units minimizing the number of deck joints. Each span is supported by five lines of AASHTO Type II (45 inch) high strength prestressed concrete beams. Eight interior bents support the superstructure which consists of a reinforced concrete cap and six 20 inch square prestressed concrete piles with steel HP pile points. The end bents were made integral with the superstructure to dissipate seismic design loads and to eliminate two deck joints. These end bents are also support by six 20 inch square prestressed concrete piles with steel HP pile points.
