Charleston County School District

Charleston County School District planned renovations of the Ashley School for the Arts plus planned demolishing part of the existing school and rebuilding on its campus. Phase I involved demolition of the north wing of the existing school and construction of a new 2-story classroom wing. The classroom wing is a braced steel frame. The elevated floor is concrete slab on permanent metal frames. The built-up roof is supported by metal roof deck and a steel joist system. Exterior walls are brick veneer with light-gauge metal stud as the structural support system.

The Phase II structures encompass the existing facility yet are all one story even though there are various roof heights.  The media room portion represents approximately 4070 SF.  The dining facility represents approximately 8870 SF which includes 1730 SF of corridor that runs generally north-south between the two sections and connects them with classroom wings and offices on each end.  The structures have gravel-covered built-up roofs.
