MMSA provided structural design and structural construction administration services for a new three-phase, Design/Build housing project for the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Built during phase 1 for the purpose of housing at least 600 military personnel within the Soldiers in Advanced Individual Training (AIT) program, the AIT barracks consist of two, five- story, “L” shaped floor plan barracks buildings as well as adjacent support areas and facilities. A wood framing system is used for the buildings along with steel framing, where required, due to increased span, structural depth, or load requirements. The floor and roof support framing system are supported on load-bearing wood frame interior/exterior and corridor walls while the roof utilizes standing seam metal roofing. The face of the buildings/exterior wall features brick façade for the full five-story height. This project is part of the Northeast Region Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC).
