Located adjacent to the existing Veterans Administration (VA) hospital complex, the new one-story, 120-bed state veterans home is the 5th world-class nursing home facility built in North Carolina. The new senior living/skilled nursing facility features private rooms, common living areas, activity and conference rooms, a private chapel, and a large meeting space. The facility also offers a memory care unit for residents with dementia. The cold-form framed building layout consists of two adjacent rectangular structures with a connector building. Design includes a structural frame system utilizing conventional construction techniques with repetitive spans and component sizes, a concrete slab-on-grade floor system with conventional shallow foundation and continuous strip foundations, load bearing metal stud framing, and cold-formed steel roof trusses.
